When is my Child School Ready?

As parents, deciding whether your child is ready to start school can be daunting. Questions like,“Are they ready?”, “Will they be the youngest in their class?”, or “Is another year at home better?”, are common concerns. With the evolution of education, you now have the option to keep your child at home while they engage in a Prep curriculum through an accredited hybrid approach of Distance Education called Virtual Learning.

School readiness is often evaluated by certain characteristics, as outlined by renowned parenting expert Dr Justin Coulson. Can your child follow simple instructions? Are they able to sit still and concentrate for reasonable periods? Are they toilet trained? These are some of the signs that your child might be ready for school. However, if your child shows early signs of separation anxiety, or you feel they could benefit from another year in a home environment, you’re not alone.

What if you could provide your child with the best of both worlds—home and school? Hillcrest Virtual Learning Community (VLC) offers accredited distance education, from Prep to Year 12, allowing your child to start their educational journey with the support they need. Our live, online classes are led by qualified teachers and are supplemented by independent, offline tasks, ensuring a well-rounded learning experience. Shortened daily lessons are designed with young children in mind, giving them the flexibility to balance learning with plenty of time for play.
